How to pray for God’s protection
How often have you faced fear or experienced despair? Have you ever had overwhelming situations and you were ready to give up? Such things happen in our life and they make us stronger. But at that very moment it seems to us that there is no way out. How to pray for God’s protection and how to receive it? Be sure to read the article below.
Why God Gives His Protection
God is omnipotent and He created the world. He holds the whole boundless universe in the palm of His hands and at the same time He knows you by name. Moreover, the Bible says that He even knows how many hairs you have on your head. That’s because He is the Creator and the beginning and end of everything.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:29)
Another good news: you are God’s most precious creation, because you are His child. Remember how parents treat their kids: they love them more than anything, they protect, defend, help them and they want what’s the best for them. God loves you more than anyone on earth. Let’s see what the Bible says about His love,
“Can a mother forget the baby on her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15)
That is why at any moment in your life you can pray and ask God to protect you. He hears every word and even knows your thoughts.
How to pray for God’s protection
Every day find some time and a place where you can have fellowship with the Lord. We build relationships through communication and interaction with people, and it’s important for us to come to God and to build relationships with Him too. Here are 4 steps to being alone with God, so we could hear His voice to receive guidance and experience His comfort. This is a little guide, and you can use it every day or for a specific situation.
1. Start to worship the Lord. Give it at least 5 minutes. Bow down before God, giving all praise and thanks to Him. You can sing songs of praise or listen to praise. Do what you feel. Don't stop praising until you feel His presence.
2. Open up your spirit. Ask God to speak to you and teach you as you read His Word. Jesus promised He would send the Holy Spirit to guide you.
3. Read and listen. Read carefully the Scripture passage you have chosen. What does it mean? How could you apply it in your life? Have you paid special attention to any word or phrase? You may want to underline a verse or phrase in your Bible, or write in the margins a date or situation that became important to you while you read it. Think like this, “What is the Holy Spirit teaching me through this passage?” Sometimes we don't need to pray for a long time to receive God’s answer. Do not forget that God’s Word provides all the answers to life’s questions. Read the Scripture and talk to God with an open heart.
4. Pray as long as you need. Many Christians find it a great blessing to pray at least an hour a day. If you can't pray regularly every day, try to do it at least once a week first on Saturday or Sunday morning. When you pray, you can talk to God about everything. Pray for yourself and the helpless situation you have faced. Ask God for help and protection in prayer. You don't need to know special words or prayers by heart. Speak from your heart, talk to God like He is your best friend.
This is a rough four step plan how you can pray behind closed doors. It does not mean that you have to always stick to it. When God calls you to spend more time reading the Bible or in prayer, you will deviate from it. On the other hand, this plan gives you the opportunity not to think about what to do next. You will focus all your attention on Christ. Ask for God’s protection and know what He says to you,
“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him...” (2 Chronicles16: 9)
